What if I have to leave and come back in the middle of my shift? How do I account for my time?

For Classified Salaried Non-exempt and Classified Hourly employees that receive an automatic meal, how you account for your time when you have to leave and come back in the middle of your shift depends on how the leave time falls around your meal break.

If you leave and return before or after your meal break (or you do not work enough hours to generate the automatic meal):

1. Clock in when you start your shift.
2. Clock out before you leave work.
3. Clock in when you return to work.
4. Clock out at the end of your shift.
5. If needed, add the leave time to your timesheet.

If you combine your meal time with the leave time and you work more than 6 hours in a day to generate the automatic 1 hour meal:

1. Clock in when you start your shift.
2. Clock out before you leave work.
3. Clock in when you return to work.
4. Clock out at the end of your shift.
5. Enter zero in the hours column for the meal (the meal time was already accounted for when you were clocked out).
6. If needed, add leave time to your timesheet.
